About Twenty20 Cricket and its rules

Twenty20 cricket is a type of one-day cricket introduced by England and Wales Cricket Board during the year 2003. In twenty20 each team bats to the maximum of 20 overs only, contrasting with 50 overs for a standard one-day match. This simply means that the game could even be completed in about three hours. Twenty20 match are normally enjoyed by children and all families people.

The English first class counties take part in a Twenty20 Cup game annually. Many games are played in evening, to gain family spectators appeal. They also feature numerous musical ‘stings’ for thrilling events: notice of a batsman, or the hitting a boundary. This new style of game had taken some of the cricketing world by storm. It is now ruling Australia, as it is full of action and appealing to the younger crowd. It is absolutely a good game overall.

Rules
Twenty20 game is played on general cricket grounds with the same traditional one-day rules. There are further minor changes that are listed here, which were used for first international game of 20/20 played in Australia, between Australia A and Pakistan on Jan 13th 2005 at Adelaide Oval.

20-Twenty Cricket Rules

  • Twenty overs per side.
  • Bowlers are restricted only to 4 overs each.

2007 Cricket World Cup

The up coming 2007 Cricket World Cup would be hosted by the Country West Indies from March 11 to April 28, 2007. It would be challenged by 16 nations divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. Further the top two teams from every group would compete in “Super 8” set-up, same as previous “Super 6” format, then from which semi-finalists would be decided.

Match schedule

There would be fifty one matches, which is quite less than the 2003 World Cup; regardless of two extra teams those are taking part. The day after every match is a scheduled reserve day, to check for weather and other interruptions. Jamaica would host the Opening Ceremony on 11 March. Eight venues across the West Indies have been chosen to host the 2007 World Cup final tournament.

Seeds

This exciting tournament would start with a league system consisting of four groups of four teams. Each team would play with each team in its group once. Australia, India, England and West Indies have been placed with separate pools for practical reasons, as the expected crowd and supporters in attendance is very high and accommodation capacity in West Indies is quite limited. There are also plans to fasten cruise ships off some of the island to offer extra accommodations.

Super 8

The top two teams in every group would further proceeds to the “Super 8” stage. This would also use a league system. Each team would carry forward its result against the qualifying team from its own preliminary stage group, and then would play the six qualifying teams once each. The top four teams in the last league would qualify for semi-finals. And then the last stage would be finals. Since the last world cup the system of “Super 6” has been modified to “Super 8”.
