Who will take the 2007 world cup home?
The first attempt to world championship was held during 1912, when a three way series was arranged among the current Test playing nations, Australia, England and South Africa. Due to poor weather, this series was dropped and not repeated until 1975, when the following success of domestic one-day international held between six Test playing nations was noticed (England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, India and Pakistan) then joined by Sri Lanka and East Africa in very first World Cup in England. As the success was felt the tournament was then repeated during 1979 and 1983 in England after which the tournament continued once in every four years. The coming tournament would take place in Caribbean this year (2007).
Since cricket is pure game of uncertainties as it has been proved on number of occasions in past that nothing could be predicted about the outcome of a tournament in advance. As far as the world cup is concerned, any prediction about winners is very difficult at this point of time as not even the players of each team had been decided and no body knows what would be the form of players at the time of world cup, which is now few months away.
While most people believe that Australia would definitely win the World Cup as there’s a strong feeling that they are presently No. 1 in the rankings and one or two bad performance would disturb all the calculations and as such they cannot take it for granted that they would be definite winners.
It all depends upon the performance of the each team on the given day. Therefore, any of the top 8 teams has a chance to win the world cup at this stage.
