BIOGRAPHY OF DONBRADMAN

Sir Donald George Bradman (born 1908) was an Australian cricketer–the supreme batsman, if not cricketer, of all time.

Donald Bradman born in Cootamundra, New South Wales, on August 27, 1908, the youngest baby of farmer. The family lived in Yeo Yeo and moved to Bowral in 1911 because of health of his mother. He learned his cricket from his uncles George and Richard Whatman. His mom used to bowl left-armers to him in the backyard. Bradman developed his batting by throwing a golf ball next to a tank stand and playing it with a stump and his fielding by throwing a golf ball to the bottom rail of a fence.

As a youngster Bradman played Saturday afternoon cricket in the country and quickly proceeded to amass huge scores. In 1926 the New South Wales Cricket Association, incidentally looking for bowlers, asked Bradman to play in trial games. While making modest scores, he attracted the eye of the selectors as a player of the future. He played grade cricket in the St. George club in Sydney. After some remarkable scores he played in his initial first class game for New South Wales against South Australia in 1927 and scored a century. After a series of big scores in the beginning of 1928-1929 he was chosen to play for Australia against Perry Chapman’s English side. Because of poor performance in the first test and being dropped to 12th man for the second, he scored two centuries in the remaining matches to establish his place in the Australian team.

. Throughout his career he was a high scoring batsman who could reduce even the best bowling attacks to seeming poorness. His initial tour to England in 1930 can only be described as a triumphal procession in which he recognized himself as a figure of international standing. He scored 2,960 runs on tour to england at an average of 98.66. In test matches he scores 974 runs at an average of 139.14. In the 1938-1939 he scores six centuries in a row, equaling C. B. Fry’s record.

Bradman’s average in first class was 95.14, and in test cricket it was 99.94 only four runs short of a 100 average. He scored 117 centuries in first class cricket . His centuries includes 31 double , five triple and one quadruple century–his famous 452 got out against Queensland in 1930.

In 1936 Bradman was appointed as captain of Australia to oppose Gubby Allen’s touring English team. He continued his captaincy to Australia until 1948, despite a five year absence from cricket caused by World War II. Bradman was a most victorious captain. In the 24 tests while he was captain Australia won 15, lost three, and draw six.

After retiring, Bradman was knighted in 1949January . He maintained contact with the game as a selector and having two stints as chairman of the Australian Cricket Board, 1960 to 1963 and 1969 to 1972. His most imperative decision as chairman was to cancel the trip of a South African team in 1971-1972 because of the expected anger and violence associated with opposition to South Africa’s apartheid politics. In 1965 to 1973, Bradman serve as President of the South Australian Cricket Association.

The Great Wall in the game of cricket.

Rahul Sharad Dravid is no longer the captain of Indian cricket team, but he definitely is a celebrity who can well be a role model. The characteristics that define his role when he was captain still exist. Substance never fades though age may slow one down.

Dravid is a cricketer who blends old world classicism with new age professionalism. He might even be considered one of the best ever by the time his career is done. He already averages around 60 at the No.3 position at which he plays more than any regular No.3 batsman in the game’s history, barring Don Bradman. He also has an average of over 60 runs overseas, more than what it is at hoe. Rather unusual for an Indian batsman! But impressive as his statistics are, they cannot represent the extent of his importance to India, the beauty of his batsman ship or the reputation he has of being a “gentleman player’.

In 2004, Dravid was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. On 7 September 2004,he was awarded the inaugural ‘player of the year’ award and ‘test player of the year’ by international cricket council(ICC).Dravid batting average of 95.46 has made him the only Indian to be in the test team of the year.

His greatest strength, according to him, is his concentration. Dravid is definitely worthy being a role model for young Indian. He has talent, intelligence, patience, concentration, and equanimity of temper. He is focused and hardworking, a perfect gentleman both o and off the field, and a good human being.

One religion with several gods that’s cricket in India

Cricket is a religion in India….but how did all this happen………

It is said that the first Cricket found its origin in South England, and moved to British colonies and dominions. As India too was one of the British colonies, the game originate its roots over here through the British Officers who brought it down to India as a favorite pastime.

Now, cricket is termed as the unofficial nationwide sport of India, it’s got an old record (history) associated with its survival in the country. India has a big history with cricket with the Maharajas (Indian Kings) playing the game. The oldest references to the cricket in India can be dated as early as the year 1725 when some sailors played a friendly match at a harbor in Kutch. By the year 1792, the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club had been formed.

The first foreign Cricket side to arrive India:
England team arrived at India in the year 1889-90. The captain of this team was George Vernon, which was the first foreign Cricket team to arrive India, even though the matches that it played over here are not considered to be First Class Cricket matches. After gaining self-government, India made its first ever Test Series victory against the rival cricket team of Pakistan in the year 1952. The win give a great boost up to the game of cricket in the nation, as some of the All Time Gems of the Indian Cricket showed their amazing skills during this Test Series from then it is considered as RELIGION.
