Twenty20 has changed the mood of cricket. It is able to attract more fans. Tests and one-day international are in big trouble, as audiences don’t see this format now, both on television or at stadiums. International cricket council (ICC) and players round the world are trying their best to save test cricket, and the five day format has managed to keep its most loyal fans glued, but ODI’s are moving towards slow death. People used to watch 50 over game before the advent of Twenty20 but now it is slowly dying. In addition, batsmen oriented pitches and rules made the game one-dimensional and at times boring for spectators. Administrators make various changes over the years, introducing ‘Powerplay’ and ‘Supersubs’ but still they have been unable to strike up the right formula.
South African captain Graeme Smith is set to step down as the side’s Twenty20 skipper with a press conference scheduled on Wednesday.
Smith is reported to be stepping aside from the captaincy of the shortest form of the game and is likely to end his tenure at the helm of the ODI side after next year’s World Cup. Smith has been captain of South Africa since 2003 but has often spoken about needing a succession plan and how he was willing to give up the captaincy.

While playing cricket if you take some precautionary steps you can prevent injury. Whether you are batting, bowling, fielding or wicket keeping, you should always wear safety equipment like batting pads, batting gloves and helmet.
Players get their fingers injured more often while fielding. This happens when ball bounces unevenly and either rises too high or not enough. Because the ball did not bounce as anticipated, it may hit the fielder on his fingers and injure him. Batsmen and bowlers suffer fractures, sprains when ball hits a body part.
A cricket match lasts very long. Do prepare your body at the beginning of the game, work on your muscles by doing mild warm-up; a 10 minute walk would be fine. Bowlers suffer the most with muscle injuries because their arms and legs are exerted each time they make a delivery, even within a game. Fielding team captain should not use younger bowlers for extended spells, as it can lead to injuries.
Whether you have practice sessions or playing a real game wear helmet with a face guard. Always remember to adjust the grill of the face guard so that it is small enough to stop the ball’s motion. While batting when you’re facing a fast bowler, always wear the necessary batting equipments like gloves, body and leg pads, forearm guards and abdominal guard.

Cricket is a bat and ball game originated from England. There are two teams each consisting for eleven players. The first team bats, tries to score as many runs as possible without getting dismissed, while the other team does the bowling and fielding, and tries to dismiss the other team’s batsmen in order to limit the scored runs. Then the team that was doing bowling and fielding will do batting and the batting team will do bowling and fielding. The new team tries to outscore the other team.
Choose the correct size of bat to use. The correct bat size must rest comfortably next to the box on the inside groin of the front leg. The batsmen should score runs and also survive against bowling attacks for the team. Each player should keep the bat and pad close together. It is important to have fast reflexes while keeping good front foot and back foot defense. A good foot defense is helpful when playing with spinners and fielders. A back foot defense is useful in facing fast bowlers who pitch the ball short.
Fielders must be alert to stop the ball from the field. They must chase the ball and race towards the field’s boundary. There are times when the fielder should jump in the air and catch the fast speeding ball. Fielders must be alert in stopping the ball and racing towards the boundary. To become a good fielder, he must concentrate on the movement of the ball and try to judge in advance the batsman’s movement so that he can move with the direction of the speeding ball.
A person who bowls requires stamina, natural ability, good technique and practice. The basic grip requires keeping the ball with the index and middle fingers. The side of the thumb must rest on the seam underneath the ball.
