Cricket by no means been more popular: CA boss

Cricket Australia(CA) chief executive James claims that test matches remain famous across the world and it will be unfortunate if individuals starts to evaluate the sport event which happened last week at Gabba.
Australia’s knocked down the West Indies within three days, joined with low mass and television viewers, has made for a smooth feel at the start of summer opposite to the previous three seasons, which characterize South Africa, India and England.
The one-sided match came along with debate over the hope of the game first played in 1877, as some guardian have advocated a two-tier system while others want a world challenge to give Test series greater background.
A collective crowd of 37,000 watched Australia beat the West Indies, and television ratings were down by up to 25 per cent on the parallel match last year between Australia and New Zealand.
Sutherland said on Thursday those figures were “on average to our expectations”, and admitted on tour sides had “a different level of beauty”.
But on the eve of the second Test, in Adelaide starting on Friday, he shielded Test cricket and rejected any suggestion the layout livelihood was under threat in the middle of the Twenty20 boom.
“The diversion of cricket has never been more admired around the globe than it is today,” he said.
“… It’s regrettable if people are going to judge the status of Test cricket or international cricket by the background and by the crowds in audience.
“Test cricket is played in three out of the five days, on weekdays and I think you really need to have a look at the TV viewers which verify the fact that Test cricket is totally here to stay.
“The Australian individuals and lovers of cricket all over the world enjoy the feel of the game and keep on watch it.”
CA has been at the front position of pushing for improvement to Test cricket, by pushing for the introduction of a world championship and continued day-night matches.
