India has became number one Test team after finishing the match against Sri Lanka with 24 runs in the third and final cricket Test to finalize the series of 2-0.
Zaheer khan got 5-72 as Sri Lanka, trailing by 333 runs in the first innings, were attempt made for 309 in the second knock.
The 2-0 score boosted up India to the top of the official Test ranking with 124 rating points, which is more than the leader South Africa.
Sri Lanka , who lost the second Test by an inning with 144 runs went to fourth place from second place with 115 points, one points behind Australia(116).
More than 10,000 Indian fans cheered Indian Players and support staff. After the fall of the last wicket South African coach Gray Kristen hugged each other.
Sachin Tendulkar, the world’s leading batsman in one-day and test cricket spoke to television after the match .”It is surprising to be the number one Test team,” said Tendulkar, 36, who completed 20 years in worldwide cricket at the start of this series.
“I have been waiting a long time to get to this situation. Not just me, but the entire country waited for it.
“The players have worked very hard over the last 18 months to get there and the coach has handled the team superbly.” Since November 2007, India have won home series against Pakistan, Australia, England and Sri Lanka, won an away series in New Zealand, and drawn at home against South Africa.
The Indians lost two away series in Australia and Sri Lanka in the same time.
“The real tough job starts now to maintain this performance,” said Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
